Twin Ahem.. Wednesday: Temporary Home
Dania here.
It has been a crazy couple of weeks around here. As previously mentioned, our house was up for sale, and it sold in less than two weeks! We are building a new home, but we didn’t want to begin construction until our house had sold. (No one needs the stress of two mortgages!) So we were pleasantly surprised that our house sold so quickly, and excited to begin building our new one. One small problem though… our new house will take 5-8 months to build, while in the meantime we are homeless… yea.
Solution? My father-in-law kindly offered to let us stay rent free at his lake home, which is just outside of Omaha. Not only did this take a huge weight off our shoulders and make the process a lot easier, it also will allow us to save quite a bit of money to put towards the new home. Although it will be a bit of a drive for Chad to work everyday (1 hour one way), I get to enjoy the whole summer vacation at the lake. Who can complain about that?
Although our temporary home is furnished and beautiful, I will be glad to finish our new house and move into it. We will be at the lake for the next several months, but even so we didn’t want to bring very much with us. We packed almost everything into a storage unit, leaving out only the essentials and some clothing. This is a little inconvenient, and I suspect we will feel like guests in a hotel for the next half a year.
Since this will be our temporary home for a while, I think some pictures are in order. So here we go:
Original A-Frame sunken living room with hidden loft.
There you go, a mini tour of the lake house aka our temporary home. Updates to come later on the construction of the new one. Hopefully breaking ground in the next two weeks. Also updates to come on the garden progress, which is really coming along!

Outfit of the Day: Memorial Weekend

I already posted this write up of our weekend, but I thought I’d go ahead and do an outfit post today as well
This outfit was from Saturday night (which I somehow left out of my weekend roundup- totally blanked it out) when we attended a high-school graduation party. We get invited to quite a few every year, since Brett’s a teacher and coach, but we usually don’t make it to very many- just because life gets busy. But for this one, a student and athlete, we had the night free and decided to go show our support.
It’s always tricky for me to decide what to wear when I know I’ll see Brett’s students. Usually I don’t think twice about picking out clothes, but this situation is different. I know I totally over-think it, but I want to look grown-up and appropriate for an authority figure’s wife, but still stylish. Not grandma-ish.
It was around 90° that night, so I went with shorts, but of a mid-thigh length. I wore them with a pretty flowered tank top that I scored from J.Crew’s clearance rack last fall for $7. I feel like anything from J.Crew looks grown up. It’s probably a mental thing because their price-point is higher than I usually spend on clothes. Anyway, I think the darker colors and patterns looked old enough so that no one would confuse me for a classmate- even in shorts and a tank top.

I also wore my oxfords and some new jewelry from Charming Charlie’s. Love this gold leafy charm bracelet! Oh, and it was much too humid to attempt to tame my mane, so I let the waves do their own wild thing.
So that’s it. An outfit from the long hot weekend. Did anyone else do fun stuff over Memorial Day? Do you ridiculously over-think outfits before you see your husband’s work-people?

Memorial Weekend
Hello all! I hope you had a great long holiday weekend. What I thought was going to be a nice relaxing weekend where I could catch up on some projects, turned into a busy, but still nice weekend filled with friends and family.
We took a trip to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo on Friday with some friends from out of town- one set visiting from Wyoming and the other from Iowa.

Can you tell from the height bias that these three played college basketball together? Haha. It’s quite the change from their college years and early twenties to see three strollers lined up. I love it.
Vera loved the zoo and had a blast. You can read about the first time we took her here, but this time she enjoyed herself much more. She called every animal either a kitty or a puppy. We also learned how fearless she is when the huge looming gorilla in the background of this next photo slammed his fists into the glass an inch from her nose and she was the only one who didn’t jump and scream! She thought it was hilarious.

A few more zoo pics:

On Sunday, I got to catch up over coffee with my very good friend, Lacey, who was on a quick trip up from Texas. I love her and miss her dearly and it was so nice to see her. We have a girls-weekend planned for July along with Dania (of course) and another good friend too, so I’m looking forward to that coming up this summer!
And as if that weren’t enough fun for one weekend, we also spent Monday with Brett’s family. Vera was decked out in little coveralls to match her grandpa’s signature look, and had so much fun playing with her cousins.

She also had lots of fun doing this about 35 times in a row:
Such a little dare-devil. Haha.
And then we got to catch up with yet ANOTHER long-lost dear friend who was visiting from Illinois. She was one of my BFFs from college so it was so fun to catch up and reminisce on the good old days. There was a nice group of us (all twins btw!) and we had fun telling old stories over cheesecake, and talking (appropriately for the day and group) about our absent group-member and how much we all miss her. I had a few tears as we drove by a decorated cemetery that night, with small tokens marking almost every stone, but only a few sad moments and overall the weekend was a very happy and fun time. I wish I would have gotten a picture of all of us together!!
Dania will be here tomorrow with her wise words about whatever’s on her mind, (since it was a long weekend, we’ll have Twin-Wednesday this week). Until then, I just have one more little thought before I sign off. Top Baby Blogs has reset their votes again and I would very much appreciate a vote if you have the time for two extra clicks today (Just click the red button below)! Dear Vera: 15 month baby

Dear Vera,
We’re one day late with your birthday post, but since it’s the holiday weekend, we had friends here last night and you got to play with some of your friends too! We all went to the zoo and you absolutely loved it. The first time we took you, you were entertained, but not really able to grasp the whole concept. This time though, you were running around, pointing at all the animals and banging on the glass to try to grab them. I guess it’s a good segue into how much more grown up you’re seeming these days.
I was just having a discussion last night about how we’re constantly underestimating you and how much you understand now. I still think of you as a baby in my mind, but I’m starting to see a toddler now. Even though you can’t verbalise everything, your little mind is working it all out. A few days ago, I asked you if you wanted some milk. You nodded yes, but you do that for every question, so I didn’t think much of it. I pointed to your cup and said “There it is. Go get a drink.”, and to my surprise you toddled right over and started gulping it down. It was the first time it really hit me how much you’re grasping of what we say to you.
You also love your books a lot more now. You don’t have much of an attention span to actually read through the stories, but you like to flip the pages and talk about the pictures. You point to all the things you recognize and call them by name. Sometimes everything looks like a kitty (or ti!) to you though. Haha.
Besides those things, you’re getting bigger all the time. You’re appetite has decreased a bit, but you have your molars in now, so you can eat almost everything we eat and you love that. I know you’re done when you start flinging food around the kitchen. Something you think is quite hilarious.
You’re also walking everywhere now, and that has become your favorite form of transportation. You barely crawl anymore and even like to walk instead of ride in your stroller. The one exception is that you love to have your dad carry you around. Not me so much though. I think it’s because there is such a good view when you’re up in dad’s arms. :) Oh I should mention that you’re still pretty wobbly when you do walk, and that bruise in this month’s photo is proof of that!
Speaking of your dad, he’s officially on his summer break now, so you’ll be spending a lot more time with him at daddy-daycare over the next few months until you start your new daycare next August. I’m looking forward to you getting to be at home with him during the days. I know he is too.
We love you so much!
Love Mom
