Around the House: Bathroom Progress

There’s nothing like sharing your disgusting bathroom on the internet to shame you into fixing it. In two nap times Saturday, I was able to make a little progress and actually got this done:

Obviously there’s still a long way to go, but it looks better to me already. Further proof that changing cabinet jewelry can make a huge difference. Besides painting the vanity and changing out the hardware, I also painted the storage cabinets over the toilet and updated that hardware too. I actually have a plan to remove that storage and replace it with some open shelves, but it will be relocated to our master bathroom eventually, so I wanted to save myself work down the road by updating it now while I had everything out. In case you’re wondering, the paint color I used is Valspar Brown Velvet in gloss finish, the same color we used on the cabinet in our kitchen way back when. Before painting, I sanded the cabinets down, but I skipped primer on these. I’m lazy like that. I also still need to fill in the old hardware holes, but couldn’t seem to find my wood filler. Can’t exactly run to the store during nap time, so that will be another day’s touch-up.

In case you forgot, here’s what the vanity looked like Friday.

And same view updated:

FYI- that’s carpet that wraps up on the underside/toe-kick of the cabinet. I know. So I’m sure I’ll be breaking out the cabinet paint again at some point.

My plan is to also paint the counter-top the same way I did in our kitchen (see that project here), although I think I’ll try a different color/pattern up here. Then we’ll tackle the wall paper and painting (all the way up!) when my dad’s back in town to help out. Besides those things I have a few other projects in mind, so I made a list of goals, because I like to cross things off.

• Paint vanity
• New hardware
• Remove cabinets
• Replace TP and towel holders
• Build open shelves
• Paint counter
• Strip paper (half way there!)
• Paint walls
• New lighting installed
• New faucet installed
• Remove carpet
• Make/buy shower curtain
• New floor install!!!
• Wall art/decor

Can’t wait to cross more off. I’ll keep you updated.

Dawn

    Hi Dawn,
We are very interested in talking to you about your home interiors work. My colleague has sent you a private email. Hopefully you’ll get it (check your spam folder if you don’t!) and would be so kind to get back to us.

    Many regards,

    Michael.
