Quite a while ago (BB- before blogging), I painted our previously John Deer Green front door bright red. It had always been my dream to have a bright red front door and I wasted no time getting one. (This is an old porch photo from fall 2010- I’m recycling. Don’t mind the pumpkins.)
At the same time, I painted the interior of the door (previously honey oak) a dark brown with the leftover paint from our kitchen cabinets.
At the time, I thought it was a good neutral, and it stayed just like that until a few weeks ago, when I got an itch to paint the entire door bright red. Inside and out!
There were a couple of factors that led to this decision. One, we had to replace our front door lock a while ago. It’s a long story, but basically the very expensive new lock we put on when moving in- the kind that you can reset whenever you want to- decided that it was going to randomly reset itself, locking us out of our own house. Oh and you need a working key to reset that type of lock, which we no longer had. So to avoid having the same thing happen repeatedly, we opted to just replace it, but the new lock was just a tad smaller than the old (and the hub was a little rough removing the old one), leaving the door looking like this:
The second factor was this image that I pinned of a bright red front door, from the inside. IN LOVE.
The third thing was that I had never quite decided what color to paint the edge of the door, so it still looked like this and had been bothering me forever:
But all that was soon to be fixed. I broke out the leftover red paint from the front of the door and got to work. Two coats later, and I was smiling from ear to ear and forcing the hub to come complement my handiwork.
I love it! It’s so much brighter and since I’ve been adding pops of red around the main living area, it fits right in. You may also have noticed that I went above and beyond and even painted out the door trim in white. About time. And it really helps to make that red stand out and look even brighter.
To save you from scrolling up to compare, here’s a before after shot:
So that’s that, and I have a newly bright front door. Yay!
