Today is your first birthday. Last year at this time, it was snowing and we were in a little hospital room together with your daddy, meeting each other for the first time. I can’t believe how much you’ve grown and how fast a year went by. I also can’t believe how much love I could have for a little person. Every day I still can’t wait to see you, and even when you’ve worn me completely out, as soon as I put you to bed at night, I miss you. I can’t describe how much happiness you’ve brought to your daddy and me, and I hope that someday you’ll have a daughter of your own so you can feel the same thing I feel for you.
The past month has been a busy one for you. You are constantly on the go and hate to be forced to stay in one spot for too long. You are truly crawling, up on all fours, and boy are you fast. We’re working on getting a baby gate now, because one minute you are in your room and the next, I turn around and you’ve made it all the way down the hallway to the stairs. You are also cruising around anything you can pull yourself up on, and I have no doubt you’ll be walking on your own soon. You’ve got one new tooth on the bottom, and your eyes are still dark blue/gray.
You love to dance and clap whenever you hear music, and you still smile and flirt with everyone. You also still quietly take in new surroundings and people until you feel comfortable enough to start talking. Speaking of talking, you babble constantly, looking at me with raised eyebrows for a response to something you’ve just said. When I ask you questions, you always respond with ‘yes!’ and a smile. You also love your cat-brother, Lucious and chase him around everywhere. He is still pretty tolerant of you, but I think you are starting to push his buttons a little more these days. He can’t get away from you quite as easily. Your other favorite person is your daddy. You are truly a daddy’s girl and whether it’s because you’ve been missing him when he’s gone for work or just because you fell for him like I did (he’s hard not to love, I know), you love to be around him and smile and reach for him as soon as he walks in.
You’re sleeping through the night wonderfully and consistently now and since we’ve started a little sleep training to get you back on track after you were thrown for a loop when you got sick, you’re doing better than ever. We put you down awake now and let you put yourself to sleep. It was rough at first, but now I think you actually prefer it and you’re sleeping so much better.
Everyone was here today for your birthday party and it was perfect. The weather was beautiful, the party was fun and I can’t wait to go through all the photos. It was a great day and a great way to celebrate all the joy you’ve brought into all our lives in the past year.
I love you so much. Happy birthday baby girl.
