Dear Vera: 6 month baby!

Dear V,

Holy smokes. How have you been here for half a year?? That seems unreal. You still seem like that tiny baby we brought home from the hospital, delicately trying to snake your skinny little arms through the straps of your car seat, so afraid we’d accidentally break you.

But yet I can see how much you’ve grown, and now you’ve got such a personality. We laugh every day at what a little person you are. We talk about how luck we are to have such an angel baby. We admire your beautiful eyes with those long curly lashes and laugh at your ever-broadening shoulders, a trait your daddy and I share. We agree that you are the best thing that has happened to us, whether we were ready or not, and we thank God for you every single day.

These days you can roll from stomach to back like a pro and we’re still working on sitting up. You’ve decided that you like to sleep on your side the best and it’s adorable to see you roll over and fall asleep like that. We’ve also started giving you baby food. That was a big step and you are loving it! You can’t get enough and its hilarious to watch you get food all over yourself while you laugh and try to hold your own spoon. Too cute.

Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us the rest of your first year on earth. I love you!

Love, Mom

She’s beautiful!! I was wondering if you bought special nipples for the bottle when you were bottle feeding her the rice cereal, or did you just use a regular nipple?

Thank you! :) We ended up buying a new bigger bottle with a ‘fast flow’ nipple. Basically a bigger opening so the cereal doesn’t clog it up. Before we got that, I just cut a little slit in one of the nipples we had, because with the thicker cereal, she couldn’t get anything out of it. I don’t know if that’s the “right” thing to do, but it worked fine for us until we got around to buying the new ones.

Thanks for the feedback! I just started TRYING to feed my daughter cereal, but she still has that newborn tongue thrust thing going on. She’s starting to look thinner to me, so I’ve decided to bottle feed her the cereal even though I’ve heard it’s a “no-no”

Yeah, like I said, I don’t know if it’s the right way, but it has been working for us. My doctor didn’t tell me NOT to do it when I mentioned it at our last appointment, so I took that as an ok, lol. I am by no means an expert though. First time mom here, and we usually just fly by the seat of our pants! So I guess if you do have concerns about it, just ask your ped. Good luck!!
