Inspiration: Bus Scrolls & Subway Art

Link

Don’t you just love how a huge statement piece can make such a… well, statement, in a room? Sometimes I tend to collect lots of little unique items that I love, but when you put them all together it can start to look junky and they all get lost. That is why I love to throw in a few over-sized pieces that balance everything out and give a room a higher-end/more expensive look.

Along those lines, I’m slightly obsessed with the vintage bus-scroll/subway art trend I’ve been seeing everywhere. Love. The scale, the time-worn look, the neutral colors that go with any style. LOVE.

The best part about my new on obsession is that my friend, Jamie (you may remember him from our barn wood adventure) just happens to hand craft bus scrolls in his spare time. And they are amazingly beautiful! So I’m working on getting one of my very own. But until I actually have it in my hands, I’ll have to be content to stare at these beautiful photos of the look I love.

Oh and btw, if you’re as smitten as I am with this trend, Jamie has an etsy shop where he sells his scrolls, including customized personal ones which are a great idea for wedding gifts or family events. (He even recently made a Denver Broncos themed scroll that i know my brother would die for.) They are all hand printed and truly unique, not just mass-produced and printed out like a lot of other options out there. The authentic texture and subtle differences in each scroll are what makes them so awesomely special. Don’t you love it when you know a piece you have is the only one? It’s not hanging on walls all over the country because it came off the shelf at pottery barn or target. These scrolls are really a work of art. So visit Jamie’s shop, Mercantile Mill, and get one of your very own!

AND… As a special treat, Jamie has generously offered readers of DesigningDawn 15% off their order! Just enter the code 15offmerch at checkout. That’s a great deal, so if you’re thinking about ordering, don’t pass this up. Here’s a look at some of his actual scrolls:

Gorgeous right? I really love this look. Are you if you as crazy about it as I am!?
