Junkstock 2013

A couple months ago my friend, Ashley, and I headed off on a fun day trip to Omaha’s biannual Junkstock festival. And it was awesome! Addictively awesome!! So we went back for the fall session this past weekend too. :) I didn’t post about the last trip, so I thought I’d do a big recap post today, while this latest adventure is still making me giddy.

Basically, Junkstock is a flea-market type festival, set on a farm, with a ton of different vendors you can check out from all over the place. It takes a few hours just to walk around the place, and I feel like we didn’t even get to see it all! Here are a few phone pics I took while we were there:

I went both Saturday and Sunday this time, and Vera came with me on my second trip. She loved it! There is a kids zone that had a bounce house, face painting, and a balloon animal station, so she was in heaven.

And finally, here are some of my favorite finds, all nestled in where they belong. :)

I love the added storage of the cute little hutch in our kitchen. I have a plan to someday add real cabinets in this area, but for now, I’m loving the pop of red and the easy access to snacks for V. As for the giant 7, gaahhh! Love. And it fits so perfectly in the space. I chose the number (out of a bunch options) as a surprise for the hub, who’s lucky number is 7 and who happened to be born on 07/07. I called it a gift, but I think we all know it was as much for me as for him. Seriously. In love.

And then there’s the map. Because who doesn’t love a giant map. You can’t tell in this terrible iPhone pic, but it’s giant.  Admittedly, it looks a little crazy right now hung up on a half painted wall with giant holes in it. But I have a plan. And I promise it will look nice someday. Trust.junk stock map

I got a few other smallish things too. Like these little red shoe forms:

And I snagged these fabulous orb vases. Aren’t they just perfect on top of the mid-century coffee table? I love the aged hammered bronze and it makes my day when I drive up and see them in the front window.

That was all from the summer session. This time, I came home with a fantastic doily stretcher to use as art in my gallery wall… which I don’t yet have a photo of. Sorry bout that….And this adorable mid-century table that I couldn’t pass up- scored for just $15! I know!!

But the find of the weekend for me was this pair of gorgeous Danish modern chairs. Gah!

They are solid wood and were marked at $150. I negotiated them down though, and Vera came in as my closer with an adorable ‘pwease?’ to the salesman. Negotiating tip- no one can resist a please from a two year old. Snagged these amazing beauties for $80 my friends. Oh yeah! Seriously though, these guys must not have been paying attention because I stalked their booth drooling over these chairs at least 6 different times. They clearly had no ideal how badly I wanted them. Either that or my kid really is negotiation kryptonite. We’ll go with that.

And now that I have the perfect chairs, this dining area is about to get a little love. ;) If I can be brave enough to actually DIY tackle the construction project I’ve been dreaming of. I’m giving myself daily mental pep-talks.

So that’s that. We’re already looking forward to the next installment of Junkstock. Although I’m going to have to convince Brett to let me go, and will likely have to promise not to go quite so overboard this time… :)
