New Year, New Things
By Dawn Sailors In Around the House, As Seen In, Blog News, Living RoomSo I mentioned a little while ago that I had some exciting things planned for 2014. Now that it’s actually here, I’m so happy I can finally share some of them with you guys!
For starters, you may have noticed quite the makeover here on the blog. I’ve been furiously working away on this project for a few months now, and while there are still some elements I need to finish up (ahem… store…), it feels good to ring in the new year with a brand new look.
In addition to that, I can finally share that I was invited to be one of the 2014 contributors for one of my favorite blogs: Remodelaholic.com.
I seriously can’t tell you how excited it makes me to type that! I didn’t really think I had a chance when I submitted my application way back in September, so it was such an amazing surprise to open my inbox one day and find out they wanted me to join the team! I’ll be posting over there once a month all through this year, along with several other contributing bloggers. Cassity has a nice write up about it over on Remodelaholic today, so hop over and read all about it. And make sure to visit the other awesome ladies on their blogs too. :) I know you’ll find some great new reads.
In other news… Since the holidays are over, our decoration are starting to get put away, my living room is (mostly) put back together, AND we’re on the subject of new things today, I thought it would be a good time to share some new accessories I’ve added to the living room that haven’t otherwise made their blog debut yet.
After posting this update a couple months ago, I noticed decided that the fireplace needed a little accessory tweaking. Namely, the magazine storage box.
It’s funny how things don’t get your attention in person sometimes, but become very obvious in photos. I guess when you live in a space it’s easy to overlook details like that (I’m eying my STILL unfinished baseboards as I type this).
When the fireplace and bookshelves were dark brown, the rustic little box I found at an antique store quite some time ago fit in quite nicely.
But once I went white, it struck me as more ‘yellowed’ and less ‘charming’. So out it went (relocated to the guest room for now until I find it a permanent new home) and in came this amazing basket I’ve been drooling over from the fall Nate Berkus line at Target. (Sadly it appears to no longer be available online.)
Dania got me a Target gift card for our b-day (the gift of shopping… she knows me so well) so I immediately snatched up this beauty. I love the scale and drama it adds. I especially love how it brings the natural warm color from the gold mirror and bamboo blinds down to the hearth area, but also incorporates some black so the marble tiles look more at home.
The smaller black and white basket is from HomeGoods, and I think combined with my DIY planter and a vintage ukelele from my mama, the elements play nicely together. :) Modern, but warm and homey. Oh, side note… please ignore the two tone bookshelf for now. I honestly can’t decide what color it needs to be and have been sampling various shades. Suggestions are appreciated and encouraged. Thanks, friends!
The living room is finally turning into one of my favorite spaces to spend time. Which is convenient, since I spend most of my time at home in here. There are still a few updates I’d like to make this coming year (I’m convincing myself I need to make a new coffee table), but for now, I’m so happy with how far it’s come!
I have a few other home updates to share in the near future (if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have seen my dining nook teaser pic!), so stay tuned for that. I’m also hoping to be able to launch my online store and share some more exciting bloggy news very soon (fingers crossed). Until then, happy new year friends!!
