Ok can someone seriously tell me what’s ‘normal’ when it comes to teething? I guess I should have knocked on wood the other day after writing this letter where I mentioned Vera being “a little fussy” because starting the next day she was more than a little fussy. A lot more.
I’m talking screaming, crying, flailing, back arching, head throwing tantrums. Not at all like our usual calm, quiet girl. Plus, she is waking up several times a night, and lack of sleep makes the daytime tantrums harder to handle. It seems like today wasn’t as bad, so I’m really hoping that we get better at this teething thing or at least that I get really good at functioning on not very much sleep. (Think of all the things I could get done if I could get used to not sleeping!) I’m yawning right now…

molars and the pokey fangs are usually worse. My son always got a fever when he was teething along with poor sleeping, fussier than usual and drooling tons. 3 things that helped him feel better were: Tylenol (as I can imagine it really hurts), orajel (I’ve tried it and it really does numb your gums!) and I would get some washcloths wet and wring them out then put them in the freezer so they were cold and crunchy and he would knaw on those washcloths non stop. I did try the hylands teething tabs too, but wasnt too convinced that they really helped.

Thanks for the advice! We’ll try the frozen washcloths. I think she would love that. :)

If she is drooling a lot more and trying to put everything in her mouth (especially her hands) then she is probably teething. Some babies don’t get fussy when they are teething, some do. Some babies sleep more when they are teething, some sleep less. I would check out her bottom gums if you already haven’t and see if you can see any outlines of teeth, see any redness or swelling. Even if you don’t see any of those signs. most babies do teeth at 6 months. I would buy some Hyland’s Teething Tablets. http://www.hylands.com/products/teething.php

She is definitely drooling a ton! She already has two teeth that came in on the bottom, but she didn’t act like this with those. I think there must be a third one that’s bothering her. Are certain teeth worse? I hadn’t heard of the teething tablets. Thanks for the tip! I will look for those.

The bottom two are the ones that are “easy” to come in. My Olivia just got her bottom 2 teeth and was fine, but I have heard that the 3rd is one of the worst. I personally have not tried the teething tablets, and won’t until she needs them, but I’ve heard great things about them from multiple moms.
