Product Review: Picasound

Last week, I got an email from the developers of a new iPhone app, Picasound, asking me if I’d like to review it for them. I thought the concept sounded kind of awesome, and like something I would really use, so I agreed to give it a try.

Anyone with a toddler knows how difficult it can be to get their attention for a photo. Recently especially, Vera has started to become immune to my cameras. She won’t sit still! The concept of this app is that you can choose from a ton (48 to be exact) of different sounds to play to get the attention of a little one (or anyone really- including pets) so you can snap that perfect photo.

I have to say I was excited to try it out and it worked like a charm! You just scroll through a variety of sounds, each represented by a picture, and pick one to play. Then you hold down the camera button to play the sound, and when you release it, the camera takes a picture.

Once you have a picture you’re happy with, you can save it to your camera roll, or share it.

So when I tried it out, Vera was completely captivated by the sounds. Not only did she stop what she was doing, but she sat still and stared at me, which rarely happens, haha. At first I just got looks of confusion, but pretty soon she started laughing every time I played a new sound – which made for some pretty cute shots. She especially liked the animals noises.

The only bad part was that after a while she started trying to ‘see’ the animals and wanted to grab my phone. Haha. But overall I’d say this app is great for getting a kid’s attention and the perfect photo with your phone. You can see more on their website, Facebook, or Twitter. If you’d like to try Picasound too, I’d love to know what you think!
