Projects: So I made the cat red

One of the small things I snagged from my dad’s house back when he was packing up and getting rid of the extras was this little ceramic cat.

I have no idea where it came from or how long it’s been there. It had a lovely 80s style flower pattern on it, and internet searches pulled up a similar one for a whopping $10 value so I resigned that it wasn’t any great treasure and you know what that means. Paintable.

For some odd reason, I’ve had it in my head for many months that I need a bright red ceramic cat. I don’t know, maybe it came to me in a dream, but I couldn’t get it out of my head and would look for tiny cats at every thrift store I visited.

Then this little kitty just jumped into my lap and asked me to take her home. So I did. And then I painted her red!

First a light sanding and a coat of primer. Then three light coats of glossy red spray paint.

She looked lovely. But I missed her face. So I drew it back on with a sharpie. And now she’s perfect.

Strange obsession, quick project, but joy-inducing results. I love my little red pet. She lives on the half china cabinet in the dining room, and soon I’ll be painting some more things red to join her in there. :)

Have a great night!
