Twin Tuesday: Asher and Boden

Happy Twin Tuesday! Today’s featured twins are Asher and Boden, the adorable sons of photographer, Courtney, of courtneykeim.com and her husband, Ken. I’ll let Courtney take it from here!

Are your boys identical or fraternal? Do twins run in your family?
My guys are fraternal. Like one has blondish hair, the other dark brown. The initial pregnancy was a shock. The revelation there were TWO was a super shock. Then finding out my mom’s dad was a twin (something I had long forgotten) soon came to light and it all made sense …

When did you find out you were expecting twins and what was your reaction?
Honestly, I had an emergency ultrasound because I thought I was miscarrying. The tech refused to let me hear the heartbeat + I was so freaked out thinking I had lost the baby. I kept begging her to tell me if there was a heartbeat + she kept telling me I had to speak to my doctor for the results which sent me over the edge. She eventually caved to my sobs + screams and showed me one ultrasound marked with a+b. She then revealed it wasn’t that there was no heartbeat. The problem was there was two.

How did you go about picking names?
My husband picked the first names. He loves to surf + chose two names of surfers. I’d say famous … but one is fictional … Asher was for Asher Nolan, a famous surfer. Boden was named for Patrick Sway’s character in Point Break. I didn’t like just Bode (or Bodhi in the movie) to be his ‘real’ name so we searched for another name that could be shortened to Bodie. As for middle names, I picked those. Asher is Christian … I always loved that name and thought it reflected our Catholic faith. Boden is Hunter which is a family name. My brother also has that middle name. So I have Asher Christian and Boden Hunter.

What is the hardest part about having twins?
The hardest part honestly is being able to provide each of them (and my 4-yr old daughter) the attention they need. Right now, each are mommy’s boys and constantly need cuddles + hugs. We have mostly everything else down pat (schedules, feedings, etc).

What is your favorite part about having twins?
Seeing how truly individual their personalities are yet how they have this amazing connection that no one will ever understand.

What advice would you give to other parents of twins?
When they were in the NICU, Asher stayed an extra month almost. I found myself constantly comparing their progress and the hardest was Boden’s early discharge. They told me very single day NOT to compare my children. That each one would progress at their own pace. Over the last two years, each has emerged with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Oh, and schedules are key. Since day one, my boys have been on an amazing schedule which I credit the NICU. to this day, at the age of two, they go down at 5:30 pm, sleep through the night and are up at 6:30. I think I’m the luckiest mom in the world. I refuse to break that schedule. I swear the day I do, it will all be gone.

Clearly you can tell from the shots here what a talented photographer Courtney is. Beautiful, right? Courtney Keim Photography is based in Atlantic City and serves the southern New Jersey
