Twin Tuesday: Freshy Fresh Foods

Dania here.

Summer is in full bloom and so is my garden! I mentioned a while ago why/how I decided to plant my first ever garden. It has been a lot of work, what with the watering, weeding, watering, weeding, weeding, weeding… you get the idea. I have to admit, a garden as big as mine may have been a bit optimistic for my first attempt at this. However, with the help of a neighbor, and extra free time (teacher summers…ahhh…) things have gone pretty well so far. My garden looks amazing, and has come a long way from this..

Planting

In the beginning…

to this..

The corn is tasseling, the tomatoes are green, and the lettuce is sprouting. Last night (as I was weeding) I began to notice a few of my first actual veggies! How exciting. Real green beans, straight from the garden, actual cucumbers, ready to eat, and GIANT zucchini! I was informed by a friend that I need to pick them before they get that big. Who knew? I didn’t even know they were there yet! I am going to have to make some zucchini bread with these guys.

With all these plants coming into bloom at the same time, I have a feeling the work has just begun on the garden. Picking all these veggies and trying to keep them fresh until I can decide what to do with them will be a challenge. Not to mention still keeping the weeds out. I have a few plans for these guys though. Aside from eating many fresh veggies and gifting some to family and friends, my mama is coming up next week to teach me how to can! Hello pickles, canned green beans, canned tomatoes, salsa, and spaghetti sauce! Don’t be jealous.

An update on my canning adventures will be coming soon. In the meantime, here is what we did this weekend, in pictures!
