Twin Tuesday: Kylee & Kelsey

Happy Twin Tuesday! I’m so excited today to be featuring a set of twins that I’ve known for years, Kelsey and Kylee. We grew up in the same town and worked together (life guarding) in high school, and I always thought they were so cute and fun! So I was super excited that we were lucky enough to have these awesome girls shoot our family photos last week. They turned out absolutely beautifully, and I can’t wait to show them to you (tomorrow!!).

The twins own a photography business together called Ever Lovely (Don’t you want to hire them just based on that name? Seriously.), and they are a dream to work with. We had such a good time at our shoot. They have a knack for making you feel so comfortable you kind of forget that they are even there to take pictures, because it feels like you’re just hanging out. Plus you get both of them shooting, so the variety of pictures and perspectives is amazing. If you live anywhere close to Lincoln, Nebraska (where they are based out of) you should look them up the next time you are in need of a photographer. You won’t regret it. I promise!

But back to the twins themselves, they were kind enough to answer a few questions for us about the ups and downs of twindom and the dynamic of running a business together as sisters. Meet Kylee and Kelsey:

Are you identical or fraternal? Do you think you look alike?
Identical. On a day-to-day basis, no. However, when we look at pictures of ourselves we get a little freaked out by the similarities. And we definitely go through phases where we look more alike than other times.

What is the biggest difference between you? What are the most similar things?
The biggest difference is by far our personalities. For example, Kelsey is more sincere and caring, while Kylee is more assertive and driven. Each of our personalities has their strengths and weaknesses. Together, we balance those strengths and weaknesses out, making us a great team. And we like that.

The most similar things between us is our sense of style – everything from personal fashion, to interiors, and our photography style. Come to our houses and you will notice a lot of similar pieces of furniture. Just don’t ask who copied who. When we cull through images we’ve taken, we agree 90% on which images to blog, but there is that small 10% where one of us will see something the other didn’t see. Kelsey usually takes credit for seeing the art in images.

If you could choose, would you want to have twins?
Each of us would say no to ourselves but that we would want each other to have twins. It would be so much fun to be the auntie of twins.

What’s the worst part of being a twin?
Believe it or not, being a twin comes at a big cost. This cost for us was being deprived of a sense of individualism. Here we are 25 years later and we are just now realizing this. Our entire lives we’ve been viewed a “pair.” We’ve always been compared to one another – who’s better at this or that, who’s better looking, who’s smarter. Our entire lives, we’ve always done what each other did because it’s better to do something together than to do it alone, or that’s what we thought. However, we wouldn’t change it for the world, but we would definitely have some advice for parents of twins.

What’s the best part about being a twin?
The best part is always having a best friend. A lot of friends come and go, but there’s something about the unique bond that twins have that is so special and truly lasts a lifetime. And let’s be honest, the attention that twins get is fun too.

Tell us a little about working together and how Ever Lovely got started!
We started to take a strong interest in photography when Kelsey was wedding planning. As we were searching blogs for wedding ideas, images started to catch our eyes; we were exposed to a style of photography we had never seen before. After seeing this entire other world of creative art photography, we were inspired and couldn’t turn back.

We work so well together, and I honestly don’t think we’d be where we are with our business today if it weren’t for the two of us, working as a team. We share the same vision but we each bring our own strengths to the table. We both have our roles in the business. Kylee is the business leader – she runs the show and makes things happen. She handles all of the post-production work. Kelsey is more of the creative – she see things and reacts; whether it’s the color palate of a space, the texture of a surface, or the architecture of a building she’s able to combine those elements with our clients personalities to create beautiful images.

Do we fight? Of course, we are twin sisters! It’s normal and it’s healthy to have our differences in opinions. The good news is that our arguments don’t last long at all.  Do we get sick of seeing each other? Nope. Do our husbands get sick of seeing us together all the time? You bet!

Thanks again to the girls for answering some twin questions for us. Make sure you check out their website at http://everlovelyphotography.com. And oh my, just wait til you see our photos tomorrow. LOVE!! These two are seriously so talented.

Happy Tuesday!
-Dawn
