Twin Tuesday: Mia & Alexa

This week’s Twin Tuesday featured twins are Mia and Alexa- an adorable set of twin girls whose mother, Samantha, writes a blog documenting their daily life called Cherry Pie Twins. (What a great blog name!) I’ll let Samantha tell you a little more about her little lovely ladies.

1. Are your girls identical or fraternal? Do twins run in your family?
My girls are fraternal and look quite different.  Alexa is blond, blue eyed and very much looks like Matt whereas Mia looks much more like me, and has brown hair and hazel eyes.  While there are twins in the family, having twins of our own was a big surprise.

2. When did you find out you were expecting twins and what was your reaction?
We found out at an early ultrasound and were absolutely delighted by the news.

3. How did you go about picking names?
For most of my pregnancy we talked about naming the girls Chelsea and Victoria.  We loved but were leery about the name Victoria because we didn’t want her to go by Vicky.  We couldn’t find another name that we liked enough that went with Chelsea.  While we didn’t want matchy-matchy names, we did want something that flowed well together.  Around 36 weeks pregnant, I started to feel that Chelsea wasn’t right for us anyway.  We were back at square one.  I looked back at the lists upon lists of names we had made.  Mia and Alexa had made every list, and it just hit me like a ton of bricks that those were THE names.  Matt was in complete agreement and we decided on Mia Veronica and Alexa Victoria.  We didn’t tell our families until after they were born, which happened to be only a couple of days after we decided.

4. What is the hardest part about having twins?
There is certainly a lot of work with twins with double the diapers, bottles, laundry, etc. and it can be logistically complicated; however, I would say the hardest part of twins is when they both need me and I can’t comfort both of them.

5. What is your favorite part about having twins?
We feel lucky to have the opportunity to parent twins, since it’s such a special thing.  They have a really special bond, and it’s heartwarming to share in that.  Plus, I get to dress them up in really fun outfits ;)
